Far from a nostalgic reissue, it took cues from Wavestation, OASYS, Kronos, modular synths, groove boxes and algorithmic composition and delivered something completely new.
Expanding this exciting, ever-evolving and inspirationally expressive concept, Wave Sequencing 2.0 comes alive in Wavestation SE.

The Wavestate SE puts filters, envelopes, LFOs, effects and more at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Eight programmable Mod knobs are customised to bring out the most in every sound, for real-time performance and also when saving results as new patches. Pitch bend and modulation wheels, and the unique Vector Joystick, give you instant access to multiple dimensions of real-time expression.
Digging deeper, almost all front-panel knobs, and most on-screen parameters, can be modulated. You can even modulate settings for individual Wave Sequence steps! Mod Processors let you transform modulation signals using quantization, smoothing, curvature, and more.
Gigabytes of samples
Totalling in the gigabytes, Wavestate SE’s sample library is vast. At a thousand times larger than that of the original Wavestation, the amount of great-sounding raw material for Wave Sequences is astounding. Three of the key sound designers from the original Wavestation, John Bowen, John “Skippy” Lehmkuhl (Plugin Guru), and Peter “Ski” Schwartz, joined Belgian artist Airwave and the renowned Korg voicing team to create the incredible Wavestate SE sound library.
Up to 4GB of your own multisamples can be imported into Wavestate SE, alongside many third-party libraries. These are loaded in through the free Sample Builder application and can be used as part of Wave Sequences, or as simple multisamples.
Powerful effects
An arsenal of superb effects ensures Wavestate SE delivers production-ready sounds. Each performance has a master reverb and parametric EQ while each layer has three dedicated effects.
Alongside compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers, and stereo delays, you’ll find distinctive processors such as the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay, and Overb, plus modelled effects including Vox guitar amps and wah pedal, multi-head tape echo, and a collection of other classic guitar pedals.

You can layer up to four Programs together in a Performance – each with their own effects and arpeggiator. The Vector Envelope and Joystick mix the individual voices of the four layers, and can also modulate any other parameters. This sheer sonic power is further enhanced with 120 notes of polyphony.
Set Lists offer effortless organisation of your Performances, and deliver instant access at the gig or in rehearsal. And thanks to Smooth Sound Transitions, previously-played voices and effects continue to ring out naturally, even when a new sound has been selected.

Wave Sequencing 2.0
The original Wavestation gave each step of a wave sequence a duration, a sample and a pitch. This created ear-catching repetitive patterns, giving rise to entirely new approaches to sound design. But what if the sounds could evolve in organic and unexpected ways, instead of just repeating?
Wave Sequencing 2.0 separates the timing, the sequence of samples, and the melody, so that each can be manipulated independently. It also adds new characteristics, including shapes, gate times, and step sequencer values. Each of these is a “Lane”, and each Lane can have a different number of steps, and start, end and loop points.
Every time the sequence moves forward, the individual Lanes combine to create the output. For instance, a sample may be matched with a different duration, pitch, shape, gate length, and step sequence value every time that it plays. You can modulate each Lane’s start, end, and loop points separately for every note, using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod Knobs, or other controllers. Each note in a chord can be playing something different!
Lanes can also randomise the step order every time they play, with real-time control over the range of included steps, and individual steps can be randomly skipped (with a modulatable probability from 0 to 100%). The result is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The four onboard arpeggiators can interact with Wave Sequences for even more possibilities.
Deep connectivity
Connect to recording or monitoring systems with balanced stereo outputs, and a stereo headphone output is provided for private playing or onstage cueing. Din-style MIDI jacks ensure connection to other MIDI-equipped instruments and audio gear. The Wavestate SE supports class-compliant USB MIDI connections to Windows and Mac computers, and the Wavestate SE Editor/Librarian and Sample Builder programs are available as free downloads from Korg.
Editor & Librarian
Wavestate SE comes with a free Editor/Librarian. This acts as a second front panel for the keyboard. Real-time display of modulated parameter values and Wave Sequences gives you instant feedback on your creations. Copy and paste sounds, envelopes, LFOs, filter settings, and more. Dive deep into Effects with access to all internal parameters and create your own effects presets.
Ultimate protection
Whether travelling to a studio or setting out on a world tour, ensure your Wavestate SE arrives safely with the included hard case. The custom design even provides space for cables and pedals.
Free software
The Wavestate SE comes with a diverse variety of music software from Izotope including “Ozone Elements” which lets you not only create songs but also master them using AI, “Skoove” which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills, as well as software synths from Korg and other brands. The moment you get your hands on this synth you'll have a variety of tools to help you take your music to the next level.
