In early 2009, Operating System v1.5 will be released, offering new functionality that allows users to sync multiple MR-2000S units, for multi-track recording/playback of DSD audio.
Main Features
1-bit recorder (2-track simultaneous recording / 2-track simultaneous playback) in a 1U size that can be easily integrated into the studio or live sound reinforcement rigs.
Superlative future-proof audio quality with 5.6 MHz or 2.8 MHz 1-bit recording, or up to 24-bit 192 kHz PCM recording and playback. 1-bit DSDIFF, WSD, and DSF file formats are all supported, as well as BWF (Broadcast WAV), and even MP3 playback .
The built-in 80 GB hard disk allows up to approximately 120 hours of recording (44.1kHz 16-bit two track recording), and over 14 hours of top quality 5.6 MHZ 1-bit recording.
Coaxial digital I/O (S/P DIF) for PCM sources integrates into existing production environments.
Word clock I/O allows synchronization with other devices or a second MR-2000S unit.
Detailed LED level meters with excellent visibility and response speed.
The analog input (XLR) reference level can be switched between -12/-14/-16/-18/-20 dB.

The legendary MR series 1-bit recorder, now in a 1U rack-mountable model
The MR-1000 debuted as the ultimate portable capture, archive, and final mastering solution for music production. Now, its unprecedented audio quality is supplemented by additional functionality in the MR-2000S, creating the ideal 1-bit master recorder for studio use. The LED level meters provide excellent visibility and response speed, ensuring accurate monitoring. As a compact way to capture and carry away the sound that you were hearing in the mixing environment, the MR-2000S fulfills the professional ideal of a truly future-proof studio master recorder.High-quality sound with 1-Bit 5.6 MHz recording
The MR-2000S supports 1-bit recording including the DSDIFF format used in SACD production. In addition to 1-Bit 2.8224 MHz, it can also record and play the even higher-quality 1-bit 5.6448 MHz format. With ultra-high quality sound that exceeds DVD audio, a staggeringly wide frequency response, and the ability to reproduce impulse responses and spacial imaging as never before, the MR-2000S introduces a new era in recording quality. Spatial character, presence, realism, the subtle resonances of each instrument --- all are captured with precise fidelity and reference to the original source. 16-bit and 24-bit PCM formats in sampling frequencies from 44.1 kHz through 192 kHz are also supported.Internal 80 GB HDD allows extended recording
The internal 80 GB hard disk allows approximately 14.5 hours of recording at the highest quality (1-bit 5.6448 MHz stereo) or approximately 120 hours of CD-quality (16-bit 44.1 kHz stereo). You can connect the MR-2000S via its USB 2.0 compatible USB connector to your PC, and transfer the recorded data at high speed. The MR-2000S can also be used as a FAT32 USB external drive to carry source material and other files when needed.* The maximum continuous recording time is six hours.
Projects are even easier to manage; up to 160,000 projects can be created internally
When you record on the MR series, two types of file are created; an audio file and a project file (which contains protect settings and mark data). These two files are collectively called a "project," and can be handled on the MR series as a single audio file. The MR-2000S lets you enter date information, and a date folder is created automatically for each day that you record. Each time you record, a project will be created in this folder. For each format, the MR-2000S lets you create up to 400 date folders, with up to 400 projects in each date folder. It's also easy to perform file management tasks such as renaming, deleting, or protecting individual projects. You can also store up to 100 mark points in each project.High-quality audio design
By using the highest-quality components available - the CS4398 Digital to Analog Converter from Cirrus Logic and the Burr-Brown PCM4202 Analog to Digital Converter from Texas Instruments Corporation - the MR2000S minimizes any possible degradation of the audio signal. The ideal connectors for the professional workplace
The MR-2000S offers the essential connectors for today’s professional workplace. Analog connectors include XLR balanced input/output jacks, and RCA unbalanced input/output jacks. The reference level of the XLR jacks can be switched in a range of -12/-14/-16/-18/-20 dB, allowing the MR-2000S to be used in any recording environment from a music-related studio to a broadcast facility. Digital connectors include S/PDIF coaxial jacks for PCM sources, as well as word clock jacks for synchronization with other devices or a second MR-2000S unit. The MR2000S also features a multi-step LED level meter with excellent response speed and high visibility.

MR2000S Operating System 1.5
This newly released firmware update for the MR2000S adds many new features to improve operational ease.
Operating System: mr2000S_V1_5.zip
- “MR Control Link” Function
This lets you perform recording and playback with multiple MR-2000S units synchronized. Word clock and transport commands such as PLAY and STOP sent via the S/P DIF cable enable this function.
- Selection of stereo or mono as the recording format
You can now select “Stereo” or “Dual Mono” as the recording format for enhanced compatibility with other devices and software.
- Support for mono audio files
When playing a project that was recorded with “Dual Mono” selected as the recording format, or if there are files whose names end in a numeral (e.g., trk1) or that are likely to be a pair (e.g., _L,_R), they will be played back as a Dual Mono stereo pair. If the paired file has not found, that monaural file will be output from both channels.
- Support for professional use of channel status block as the S/P DIF output
It is now possible to use the channel status block of the digital output from the S/P DIF terminal in “professional” mode. When you select “Professional”, the first channel status bit is set to “1”.
- Improved Fast-forward and Rewind.
When holding down the FF or REW button during playback, you can now hear sound (commonly called scrubbing).
- Support for AIFF file playback
MR-2000S can now play non-compressed AIFF files with the extension of .aif, .aiff, or .aifc.
Also included in the “zipped” file: A guide containing a full list of the new updates as well as instructions on how to perform the update procedure.
